LATEST REPROCESSING STANDARDS 2023 OUT NOW
The latest Australian reprocessing standard AS 5369:2023 was released in December 2023. This standard requires all health and non-health care facilities where reusable medical devices or other devices used in human health care and other treatments to comply with the requirements of this standard. This standard supersedes all previous reprocessing standards.
The aim of the Australian standard and the normative and informative references listed is to provide a uniform minimum requirement for the cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation of reusable medical devices so that they are safe for use and pose no risk of transmission of infectious agents.
Prevention of health care associated infections in patients undergoing dental, allied health, medical or surgical procedures, or for procedures in non-health care related facilities where skin piercing, tattooing or where the procedure pierces the skin or where the mucous membranes are contacted is vitally important.
If you do not understand the intention or requirements of this standard it is vitally important that you seek assistance and advices to prevent patient or even staff harm.
